Ruochen Rachel Zhang

Rachel’s artistic practice grows out of the conflicting feelings and experiences of everyday life. Through the transformation of bodily and organic forms, she explores how these tensions can be expressed and allowed to coexist, opening up possibilities for reconciliation. The figures in her work move between human bodies and abstract creatures, tracing the shifting relationships between bodies and their surroundings. Working across media, she approaches each as a way of constructing space, inviting viewers into her work through visual and bodily experience. This attention to space and the relationship between artwork and viewer also informs her curatorial practice.
